In September 1993, following a series of extensive preparatory talks, a number of foreign banks and financial institutions in the Netherlands founded their own Association under the name:

'Foreign Bankers' Association in the Netherlands (FBA)

The initiators were general managers of the branches established in this country by the world's leading banks. The official inauguration of the FBA took place on Tuesday, 19 April 1994. On the occasion, Mr H.H.F. Wijffels, Chairman of the Netherlands Bankers' Association (NVB), addressed over 200 invited guests and members.
He touched on the new relationship between the Netherlands Bankers’ Association and FBA - the FBA works within the framework of the NVB - and on global monetary and economic policy aspects. The main reasons for establishing an association of foreign banks in the Netherlands, and its objectives, have been laid down in a Mission Statement.

Once a month, on a fixed day (the second Friday of the month) an Association Lunch Meeting is held featuring a presentation by a prominent guest speaker.
